Fly By Those Nets is always looking for new contributors and to promote new voices. We particularly welcome submissions from people whose experiences are not usually represented in the mainstream Northern Irish media, regardless of experience or viewpoint.

To write for Fly By Those Nets you just have to have a relationship to Northern Ireland. Some of our writers live in Northern Ireland, some live abroad. Some were born here and some moved over later.

Pitches from new writers should be in the following format:

  • Briefly outline the argument or story in two or three sentences. Why is it interesting? What is your argument? What are your conclusions?
  • Write three to five bullet-points that show the structure of your piece and show us you've thought it through.
  • Aim to make it between 500 and 1,500 words.

We will edit and send it back so you can accept the changes we make before sticking it on the site. This bit can be quite scary so we try to keep our feedback as friendly and relaxed as possible. We aren't grading you, just helping you get your ideas across in the most engaging way!

Unfortunately we aren't in a position to pay for any submissions right now, so we really appreciate the time and effort you put into a submission. We don't make any money at all from this site, but once we do we'll be sure to pass it on to those who help us out with new writing.

Send your pitches to info@flybythosenets.com or use the form below. We might take a few days to get back to you, but we do read every submission.

Good luck!
